Hot Mud sings an anthem for the ones that “don’t belong”, encouraging the weird and wild ones to embrace their eccentricities, claiming “They’re the only ones who know how to have any fun around here.” Bored of the media’s obsession with beautiful and wealthy celebrities, tired of being insecure about his image and situation in comparison, he cries out for something outrageous and different.
It’s a brutal tale of addiction seen through a glamourous camera lens. A play on the lifestyles of the rich and famous, but at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, through the dark alleys to the never-ending party where they have “no money and expensive habits”. Hot Mud channels his dark days, broken and beaten, stumbling through the city streets to execute an irresistible rocker.
Named after a radio show Hot Mud created and broadcast live every Friday night from his room in rehab. It’s another tale of Hot Mud’s taste for the wild and fast party life that turned him into a desperate addict. The song refers to the illusion of control that results in a never-ending ‘weekend’ speeding towards an inevitable crash, all the while the radio blasts this high adrenaline gritty pop banger.
Hot Mud croons in a stream of consciousness, citing quirky observations on existence when he buys “a cheap ticket to a movie called life”. Musing from the passenger seat “on a one-way trip called life”, he watches the world go by and ponders his purpose in it all. No matter what becomes of his life, it will be the best one he’s ever had, considering it’s the only one… or so we think?
Full of lyrics and quotes taken from Hot Mud’s personal experiences and interviews with other musicians from his very own radio shows.
Although the satirical message paints a grim picture for music makers, the song itself proves that the art is still very much alive, and as creative, and exciting as ever.
